DOG BEHAVIOUR AND TRAINING ISLE OF WIGHT

Puppy Training

How exciting!   So you’ve chosen your puppy and maybe collected them from the breeder. Now where do you go from here? We all know those early months are so important in a puppies life but what does socialisation actually mean!

Or maybe your puppy has been home a few weeks and you are now seeing them grow up and feel the effect of their sharp teeth and penchant for chewing things they shouldn’t!

When training a young dog it is important to remember that every puppy is an individual. As well as breed specific behaviour, every puppy has a different personality and a different hereditory background. This is why Paul does not carry a one size fits all approach to training but prefers to treat each dog as an individual whether they are being trained under the Puppy Package or in a group or class

The Puppy Training Package

A Home Visit plus three one-hour sessions for £90 (Suitable for for Puppies pre-injection )

Or four one hour field sessions for £70 (post full vaccination)

Package suitable for puppies from 8 weeks to 6 months (26 weeks)of age.

Paul offers a very personal one-to one Puppy Training package designed to work individually to your particular puppies needs. This package involves four one-hour lessons and open access to phone and/or email advice as well as a written training programme.

The first visit may be in the home (which can be pre injection as soon as your puppy comes home) and includes plenty of early advice and hands on demonstration, all dependant on your puppies age and learning stage.

The three follow up sessions continue to be individually tailored for your puppy and can address any problems that you may be experiencing as well as covering all basic foundation training (which Paul always demonstrates). These sessions can be carried out in the home though Paul prefers that for at least two of these sessions you bring your puppy to his private training area in Niton, so your puppy can practice their training in more natural surroundings and be socialised with Pauls own dogs in a safe and friendly environment.

Socialisation is very important during this period, so that even though the training    is one to one, all puppies are introduced to other dogs during training so they learn to develop good communication skills.

The one-to-one package is very suitable for those whose lives are busy or for those who have children, who may find attending a regular class difficult. Paul always arranges visits to suit the families needs and will work evenings and weekends, changing the appointments to suit shifts or days off.

The puppy training programme covers:

  • Toilet training
  • Crate training
  • Diet and good food manners
  • Recall – coming when called
  • Sit, stay and down training
  • Early lead walking
  • Walking to heel
  • Early distance control (staying with you when there are other distractions)
  • How to successfully socialise your puppy
  • How to de-sensitise your puppy to, for example, vacuum cleaners and car travel
  • Accustoming your puppy to being handled and groomed
  • Management and prevention of early behaviours such as – jumping up, mouthing, play biting and chewing!
